5G-Advanced and AI are reshaping wireless networksEscrito por Agencias Externas el 18/06/2024 a las 16:08:17906
With nearly 1.8 billion 5G connections worldwide now, 5G networks have entered a sophisticated stage in their development, as billions of new people and devices connect to the mobile global Internet. The rapid adoption of 5G has far surpassed the speed of growth of 4G LTE networks just ten years ago, as mobile network operators have launched 315 commercial 5G networks around the world today. The industry is not standing still. With 5G-Advanced just around the corner, heralding technology improvements in reduced capacity (RedCap), integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), metaverse, non-terrestrial networks, and ambient IoT, network operators are seeing an increasing variety of ways they can connect their customers to the digital world. All these technologies will be working in conjunction with what appears to be the biggest technology shift in a generation: AI. Both AI/ML and its transformer-powered cousin, generative AI, herald profound advances in how intelligence are becoming integrated into virtually all aspects of the wireless network, from spectrum management, network planning, improved customer experiences, security, slicing applicationsand services. But these new advances won't work without improved cooperation with governments and the broader ecosystem of wireless partners and customers, particularly around new spectrum. A great deal of work lies ahead. |
