5G Americas, the industry trade association and voice of 5G and LTE for the Americas, today announced the election of Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) to its Board of Governors. Ciena will join the telecommunication industry’s leading operators and manufacturers on the Board to facilitate the advancement of 5G technology and the transformation of 4G LTE networks in the Americas region.

Ciena is innovating across packet and optical platforms, intelligent automation, analytics, multi-domain service orchestration, and professional services to facilitate the transition from 4G to 5G mobile networks. The company is specifically focused on converged fronthaul/midhaul/backhaul transport enabled by its purpose-built packet networking platforms, Adaptive IPTM, and integrated WaveLogic 5 coherent optics.
