Artificial Intelligence became Moscow City's management assistant

Moscow is the flagship of Russia in the use of artificial intelligence: more than 70 projects using it are being implemented in the city.

"Projects using artificial intelligence have increased the speed and efficiency of urban processes. AI not only removes part of the load on the city services, performing routine operations, but also provides high-quality analytics, helping employees of the authorities to make management decisions," says Eduard Lysenko, Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Moscow Information Technology Department.

Computer vision algorithms appeared in the arsenal of Moscow doctors in early 2020 and were initially used only to recognize the signs of coronavirus pneumonia. Now, the new tool helps to recognize some types of cancer, various pathologies of the lungs and cardiovascular system in time. The technology makes it possible to describe and analyze images 30% faster, diagnose more quickly and move on to treatment.

Artificial intelligence helps city services manage traffic lights, traffic flows and passenger traffic, monitor traffic conditions, parking, and record traffic violations.

The neural network also helps city services detect violations in the maintenance of yards and streets. Specialists trained artificial intelligence to analyze images from city surveillance cameras and identify potholes on roads, overflowing garbage cans, untidy snow, and other types of violations. Only images with a high probability of violations are transmitted to city employees, so they do not waste time on manual processing of information and can focus on cases that require special attention.

We would like to add that in 2021, for the first time in the history of the World Council on City Data (WCCD), Moscow received two certificates at once - ISO 37120 and ISO 37122, international standards, which reflect the main indicators of the quality of life and urban services. In 2022, the Russian capital intends to receive a gold certificate of compliance with the requirements of a "smart" city, and then a platinum ISO standard.
