EU and Ukrainian operators continue to help refugees from Ukraine stay connected

Ukrainian and EU operators have signed a new statement to prolong voluntary measures that have been allowing affordable or free calls between the EU and Ukraine. Under the updated Joint Statement, signatories have renewed and extended the framework to continue to voluntarily and bilaterally lower wholesale roaming and international call termination charges. According to the estimate by the European Commission, these new voluntary measures will allow over 4 million refugees to have affordable access to connectivity as they seek shelter in the EU.

 

The GSMA has facilitated the involvement of its European members in this initiative and welcomes the continuation of the Joint Statement.

 

Laszlo Toth, Head of Public Policy, Europe at the GSMA said “Affordable mobile access remains a critical issue for citizens displaced by the war in Ukraine. The GSMA is proud to stand behind the continuation of our industry’s commitment to helping Ukrainian refugees.”

 

Ukrainian Mobile Network Operators: 3Mob, Data Group, Kyivstar, Lifecell, Ukr telecom, Vega White, Vodafone Ukraine and EU Telekom Operators: Altice Portugal, Bouygues, Colt, Deutsche Telekom, Iliad, KPN, Liberty Global, Masmovil, Orange, Play, Polkomtel, Proximus, Telefónica S.A, Telenor Group, Three Group, TIM, United Group, Vodafone Group signed the Joint Statement to date.

 

The joint statement remains open to all operators willing to sign in an expression of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
